Transmission
work continues for Pemiscot-Dunklin Electric Co-op
Yesterday’s
anticipated reenergizing of substations for Pemiscot-Dunklin Electric
Cooperative did not happen as tough working conditions delayed repair
work. Crews have most of the poles in place to restore power but
wire still needs to be restrung.
Those efforts
continue on Sunday with some crews expected to be shifted from distribution
work to transmission work. Meanwhile, distribution crews continue
to mop up across the cooperative’s service area, repairing
lower priority areas.
“We were
hopeful this ordeal would end for most members yesterday,”
said Manager Charles Crawford. “Unfortunately, there was more
work to be done than we thought. Rest assured, our efforts continue.
We will do everything in our power to get power flowing as soon
as possible.”
When repair
work is complete, members are cautioned to get generators unhooked
if they are wired into the home circuit. Any generator that is improperly
wired can be damaged when power flows back onto the cooperative’s
lines, Crawford says. Generators that serve individual appliances
through extension cords should be OK.
Members who
have damaged meter bases on their homes will need to have these
repaired as this is not the cooperative’s responsibility.
Cooperative crews will replace meter bases that are on poles. Also,
meters removed to hook up generators need to be replaced.
The public is
also urged to be extra careful around any downed power line. Do
not assume they are dead. Any downed line should be considered dangerous
and should be avoided.
